Joyce Ladner "I don't think we'll see more desegregated classrooms necessarily. But I think it's going to be hip to be an integrationist." Joyce Ladner grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She has been a Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institute and a former President of Howard University. In 1958, as a teenager, she was among the youngest members of the NAACP Youth Council. She now lives in Florida, site of the controversial 2000 election recount. "He [Obama] decided he was going to be an African-American. In his selection of a wife, being a very liberal senator, going to a black church. Those are choices he made. He didn't have to make them."
